We weren't meant to be

It happeend on a cold October
as I sat on the bleachers
my hands folded in my lap
as you told me it was over

You sat with me
dabbing my eyes with your shirt
telling me that
everything would be okay

I didn't believe it then
I thought life without you
would be none at all
because you made everything clear

You were right, I discovered
we had no relationship
it was ruined by lust
which I thought was love

Did you ever love me?
It hurts to think you didn't
but when I remember back
the answer is plain as day

I want to say thank you
because you were right
right about everything
we weren't meant to be
