how can you seem so unscathed?
while you're polishing your gun
i know that any battle fought
is never truly won
you've got unanswered questions
and you veil them with your pride
you feel that by saying "hi" to me
you'll somehow take my side
i'm not trying to take the lead
and i'm not prepared to go
but, i never have stopped loving you
i thought i'd let you know

maybe isn't really a promise
and it isn't at all concrete
it's twice as hard to take a stand
after fighting for your seat
perhaps is always a cop out
i've often used that word
except for now
it's definition
is truly reassured
i don't expect more than rejection
i won't meet you after the show
but, i never have stopped loving you
i thought i'd let you know

time itself cannot heal us
it just makes us older, you see
how we learn, or grow, or change
is not predestiny
i'm driven by my failures
i'm driven towards my cures
it's hard to know that my life is
no longer part of yours
i might not look back
you might never see me
