Better Than A Toothache

"You're standing on my foot", he grins
and I giggle shamelessly
like a young girl
only he and I know
what that means
that is how our love is
everything I am he loves
all he is, I adore

Hours and days and years
are not enough to spend
playing with his hair
while his head rests in my lap
in the park where the trees
are blowing in the wind
and making the shadows on our faces
wave back and forth

The sun sparks in my eyes
and he embarks on another journey
describing the surreal blue
and I smile a forever smile
I tell him how he makes
my heart and pride and being swell
with tenderness and devotion and love

And I know when he explores
my mind he finds the truth
And even if he could not
speak, his entire being
sings my song
so I would know
he is standing on my foot.
