Above personal cost

High in the sky on soft feathered wings
My beautiful bird glides gently and sings
A song sweet and simple and straight from her heart
A song gilded with sadness because we're apart
But laughter and joy and thoughts of soft love
From most of the melody she sings from above
She climbs and she dives as she frolics in the skies
Her beauty, her shape reflected deep in my eyes
And at last as she tires and upon me does rest
A loving heart beating beneath her gentle breast
I marvel that she has gazed down from on high
And chosen my shore when she could have flown by
But her freedom I value above personal cost
For although, if she flew off my soul would be lost
The fact that she chooses to fly down to me
Is only of beauty because she is free

For an angel
Roger
