crankdown

standing here on the road
i've got my thumb stretched out toward the sky
ever since you left me i've got nothing left
'cept to do or die
maybe now these thoughts of leaving
can tide me by
but, still, i'm wondering what i'll do

every thought that races by me
reminds me of simpler times
when my heart was sleek and streamlined
and never looking for a ride
and i never cared to ask directions
or plot the lines
because they always led to you

hoping for a four-wheeled angel
to lead me away from home
making sure to see the angles
so they won't leave me alone
and i hear that hearts of gold will not turn
to hearts of stone
it all depends on the wind that's blowing

i've made a million friends
and i've lost a few
never seemed to affect the things
that i say or that i do
not until the time i saw that it
came down to you
and i just couldn't turn you 'round

maybe it just took some time here
standing on the dotted line
never knowing you were mine, dear
never seeking what i'd find
maybe i'm better off
being left behind
without a voice, without a sound

hoping for a four-wheeled angel
to lead me away from home
making sure to see the angles
so they won't leave me alone
and i hear that hearts of gold will not turn
to hearts of stone
it all depends on the wind that's blowing
