Porch Light

She didn't say goodbye,
Just slipped out the door one night.
I shouldn't have left the porch light on-
she was afraid of the dark.

A body racked with sobs is a sight for no one-
with a grunt and a splash to the face, I look around to see if anyone had been watching.

My new neighbor wears worn denim overalls and a spaghettie strap tank top-
a toe ring and cleavage.
And tonite I am going to get drunk on wine and woo
Emily Dickinson with my fountain pen.
All this from my porch.

But I am still leaving the porch light on after I go to bed.
My phone on a cluttered night stand-
the ringer on high.

Damn mosquitoes.
