ANGEL IN JAIL

twinkling takes time when you are small and ordinary
             like me
my beauty is mediocre and I will never achieve
            mass appeal
and my daddy isn't as cool as yours
and I've never been with a guy like your Jonny Lee
and I don't have any tattoos and I'll never grace
      the cover of *Rolling Stone*
and I have never been a lesbian or had
a bisexual experience
but my GOD, girl!!!
if kismet should ever tangle up our paths
and place us in the same room
I am going to have to set my Gemini angel free
(anagramming your name i found ANGEL IN JAIL, the coolest one)
and take you with me to Mexico
and buy you a knife
and a round or two of beer and tequila
and at that point
anything could happen
(a salty kiss...shared nightmares...girl secrets...dessert)
should I be ashamed?
hell, no!
that's only the Baptist choir girl
lurking in the attic of my memory
wondering what the neighbors would think
you would know right away
you would recognize the same wild purity in me
that you wear
with real bravery
as you glide through this world
laughing at the double takes
..."Quod me nutrit me destruit," indeed
I look at your pictures
and the heterosexual woman is envious
but the chica loca who breaks all the rules
and asks for the impossible
and demands it RIGHT NOW!!!
is floored
you are adored by many
but I'm going to write your best movie ever
and I'm going to write a song you can dream to
I'm going to be better than a fan
I'm going to be your match.
