Eye Catching

Out of the corner of my eye
   I saw your white shirt
  And tan khaki's ending
with your gray VANS shoes
crossing one
  in front of the other
Left to right to left
as you approached my locker
              p
as I reached u to put my books away

My eyes s t r a i n e d
watching your feet
disappear behind me
   before my eyes
sHiFtEd
to the other side
...expecting...
your gray VANS to reappear
like the next slide to a
film strip,
   but they didn't

You began to walk past
  but the thought was
retracted as something
  drew you back

My neck bare
and waist open
to your arms
  and you accepted
the invitation with
a curious mind
  Taking my breath
straight out through
my spine
