somewhere between wrong and just right
once the air was still
you told me you liked
my bare feet
and i couldnt understand
why the right was hot
why the left was cold
goosebumps on my cheek?
i didnt believe you
i wrinkled my brow
but it didnt help
iron the crease in yours
i thought too hard too long
but that look in your eye
and that lead in your tongue
made me nervous
i wanted to trust you
i fathomed it all
when i could not look in you
and see what i thought
that i would: me
i convinced you to smile
and made it easy to go
while my heart baked on one side
and froze on the other
