Playin' Hookey

At 5 a.m. I decided not to go
By 5:30 I was in your bed,
Silently hoping you would stay.
Knowing that the daily mental war
Was being waged in your mind.

At 6 a.m. you held me close
And said you had to go.
I nodded, wishing you would hear the silent cry
You got up as I lay still
And disappeared into the next room
As I briefly fell asleep.

At 6:30 you slipped off our jeans
Climbed in silently in beside me
Pulled me to you
I smiled and whispered
"You won't get paid for staying home"
You stroked my hair and smiled
"I'm paid with love everytime you're near"
