I Never Noticed....

I never noticed
the warmth of the sun
shining down on me,
preferring only to notice
how it blinded me instead.

I never noticed
the gentle sound of the rain,
both relaxing and nourishing,
preferring only to notice
how long it seemed to last.

I never noticed
the purity of a new snow,
beautiful and peaceful,
preferring only to notice
the cold seeping into my bones.

I never noticed
the moon, the stars,
shining relentlessly on,
preferring only to notice
how futile it was
to believe in a wish.

Then there was you.
And there in your eyes, your smile,
your words, your touch,
were all the things
I never noticed.

I never noticed 
how ready for love I was,
until you made me love you.
