Eager we are to chase
the skirts of issues
we don't want to slow dance with
lovers allow themselves to
slip into a dangerous forgetfulness
of the days and nights
spent in agony over a love
gone wrong or one that
never came full circle
leaving us alone to
commiserate with a misery
that would love company
but never calls when we
entertain other guests
at the hearth of passion
that will never burn itself out
as long as we slow the pace
of our dance
