Keeping Today

My eyes choke on their own tears.
The reality and clarity of memory
Burdens my nomadic mind
and simple events
have torn my emotional restraints.
I feel the slack of my marionette strings
My puppeteer has gone on break
and I lay limp,
With out ambition,
Heavy head and limbs,
So tired of fruitless love
with typical outcomes.
I want to feel his eyes on me
and stop relying on yesterday
to keep my back straight.
For once
I want to keep today for myself.
