cupidity

i'm a kid in a candy store contemplating selections
the usual sweets are hanging out in their sections
begging to be unwrapped and sampled
I grab a brown bag and begin with a handful…
of nerds and airheads, so uncomplicated to love -
a few runts for good measure and a big hunk to hug
a handful of sugardaddies - who couldn't use those?
sweet tarts and milk duds tug at my nose
mr. goodbar waits patiently to jump in my sack
i reach for a chick-o-stick and then put her back
a charleston chew sneaks out of my past
oh why don't those bit-o-honey's ever last?
i add tootsie rolls and blow pops for now and later
smarties, good and plenty, and oops! time to pay her
i tie up my treats with a string of red laces
and skip all the way home with happy faces
