Too intense

Too Intense.
The words destroy
and insult
and excuse
everything.

It is perhaps
nicer
than the standard lines
I've heard before.

"You are so sweet".
"You are such a nice guy."
"You deserve better than me."
"You are too good to be real."
"You are so thoughtful."
"I know I will never meet another like you."

All of these worn and weary standards
always end
with the single word
"but"
before the unseen blade falls
razor soft
powder fresh
silently slicing
through everything.

The screaming silence
of emptiness
echoes with words
that cannot be spoken
only felt in broken
fragments
on the floors
of my soul.

You major complaint
as I recall
in the very beginning
were the large number
of men you'd met
who were not ready
for commitment.

I blew that curve
didn't I?

It's alright.
I am a colorless bleeder.
A talent I learned long ago
from someone else
Who neatly created
and closed the wound
in her idea
of gentle mercy
when she told me
I was
too intense.

Did I tell you before?
Be careful what you wish for.
You just might get it?

You did.
But it
was
too intense.
