It's 11pm and
I now know you are
not coming home.
Your call was clear,
Thank you AT&T.
I am tired of your
unhappiness, you said.
I am tired too,
I thought.
Of raising one more
child. And hoping
I would see
the man I married.
He has been absent
long before he left.
And I could cry.
I did, a bit.
And I could try.
I did, I think.
And I could die.
I won't, I know.
I don't recall
hanging up the phone.
Though I know
the high pitched
tone turned into that woman's
voice, reminding me to
hang up and try again.
Hang up and try again.
