remedy

cradle and the broken bough
tax returns and silage spilled on highways
you going my way?
didn't think so
but i'm not afraid to ask
i've got a phone card
with ten minutes left to waste
would you let me waste it on you?
you can fill my ears with chloroform if you want to
after all, it's your attention that i seek
but not what i strive for
you'd be something that i'd die for
if i had no faith in me
don't be offended
please
it has nothing to do with you
don't be offended
i wasn't born to offer only servitude
there's much more beauty to me
than you could possibly see
if i had my lips planted on your ass
all the time
i hope that's not what you're striving for
i offer compliment
but i would surely hate to complete you
that's your charge, and your's alone
i'm not going to play with identity
it's a structure too complex to be attached to
or obsessed about
there are a billion lonely people who would cling to you
there are a billion lonely people who would cling to me
i love you as an equal
not a remedy
