On the Rocky Shores
The sea thrusts upon the rocky shores of my home
Letting her pasty green self devour the rigid edge
Leaving only a salty foam, which she quickly snatches back
The gulls above cry out in the crisp evening air
Their call sends my body into a shudder
I tighten the worn afghan and take a sip of hot chocolate
In attempts to ward it off the feelings of emptiness
I again turn my attention out the latticed window
The aves have continued in their sunset rituals
Diving and weaving throughout the cool autumn heavens
Hiding behind tawny clouds and plummeting to the walk
Noisily devouring their evening meal of stale crumbs
Then hastily ascending into the deepening sky
The copper clouds enkindle the murky sky with light
Slowly blushing and finally illuminating a hue of indigo
As another lonely night creeps closer to my life
The celestial expanse realeases to a stary heaven
And I am left alone to ponder my loss again
The ocean's winds whisper to me in their grating tones
Taunting my heart with the secrets they've obtained
Their master has lured you away with her siren song
Too beautiful for any human kind to resist
Smoothe and tempting, truly the finest of treasures
Still I escape their chanting and proceed in my tasks
A small lantern I place in hopes to bring you back
The source shines out to the coast and displays
Something I've prayed time and again not to see
Shards of a vessel appear atop the cruel sea
She throws them towards my home as evidence
Trying to tell me it's time to give up on your return
But my soul cries to keep lighting the path
I waited before for your arrival and I shall wait again
Until the day you come back to me, I will remain here
Watching the gulls play and the clouds change
