Time For Teddy Bear

Come here, Teddy Bear.
Yes, I know you thought I forgot you,
huddled there by the foot of my bed,
worried that those threadbare places
make you less special in my eyes.
But you are dear to me,
comforting
sweet and sure
and you have a stout true heart,
and have been there on nights
when no one else cared that my heart was raw.
So tonight,
it's just you and me Ted---
a bowl of popcorn
a flannel nightie
and a bad movie
that I always loved.
I tuck you in next to me,
and yes,
you can share my pillow
and you won't mind
if I cry a little in my sleep
don't mind a few tears
always insist that you'll dry quickly
and it's really no trouble.
Ted---we go back a ways---
and no matter where I go,
you know that the bit of my heart
where I keep you carefully
will always be a place
for you to rest, or think, or just be.
C'mon Ted.....
the movie is starting.
And I guess there's all kinds of love
even when you think
you've gotten too old for such things.
