My Thanksgiving

I'll sit
the long night through
and watch the dawning
of the awaited day.

In homes
far flung and near
the family will gather
hearts and stomaches
waiting to be filled.

They will depart at days end
filled
with love and fellowship
and Mom's secret stuffing.

I'll watch the world
from my window
My cheeseburger
will be enough.

My celebration
is distant yet
but coming
on silent wings.

At days end
I will be filled
with a happy longing
for the day we wait for.

You are
my thanksgiving
my Christmas
every day.

You are the gift
I have prayed for
the hope realized
the miracle to come.

How could I be happier
unless you were really here?
