To My Wife Whitney
The light that shines comes from your eyes
Where an enchanted soul speaks lightly.
The lavish sparkling of an evening's skies
Matches not what yours tell brightly.
Your eyes confess your heart and soul
They raptly speak of charms you hide.
No more, no less, you watch them grow
To someday tempt my schemes aside.
Wherever you walk, sweet flowers rise.
An energy you dismiss, yet
All things flourish where you turn your eyes
And I'm the next to be so met.
The light that shines comes from your eyes
And may be my heart's surrender.
I'd rather, still, be brought to sighs
Than know not life so tender.
