When I wake
When my dreams are bitter
with the past
my nights full of phantoms
long wrongs recalled
When I wake
and shake the echoes
of war from my shadowed mind
One gentle presence
one feather breath
one tender weight
soothes me in the darkness.
Your sleeping face
pillowed on my chest
your fingers tangled softly there
to trail in sleep
along my belly and back again
And you unknowing
but aware in dreams
kiss me there
above my heart
My arms surround you
my silent heart overflows
and once again
I know how much I love you.
What thing is this
so sweetly filling me?
When I wake
to the magic that is you.
