Into the Woods

I didn't want
You to leave
On that day
It was so long ago
Almost a lifetime
Or so it would seem
We had just taken
A ride together
We both had to go
To the same place
Convenient, I know
And I know that I tried
Not to eye you
Up and down
But, I just couldn't help myself
And, yeah, well, you caught me
Looking at you
And a while later
I caught you
Looking at me
And we were both
On very dangerous ground
Neither of us ready to jump
But both unwilling to stay
Where we were
So,when we got back
To my house
I didn't want you to go
You couldn't go
I just wouldn't have it
So, I took a deep breath
Tried to remain casual
And asked,
"Do you have anywhere to be?"
"No."
You answered
I smiled
Well, I grinned like an idiot
Is closer to the truth
So, then I asked if you wanted
To take a walk in the woods
And with a strange glimmer
In your eye
You said, "Yes."
So, off we went
Ignoring all
The questioning looks
That we recieved on our way
We slipped in among the trees
With light from the sun
Falling all around us
I slipped my arm
Around you waist
And you put yours
Around mine
We pulled eachother close
And, yes, it was really hard
To walk along that narrow path
In more ways than one
But, somehow, we managed
And we talked along the way
About nothing
About everything
And before we knew it
We were almost back
To the edge of the woods
Near my house
A few feet from the clearing
You grabbed my jacket
I couldn't walk foward
I turned around to you
Several inches from your face
You had you head tilted
As you spoke, questioningly,
"Is this okay?"
And without even having
To think about it
I whispered, "Yes."
And you kissed me
God, how you kissed me
Pulling away
For a moment to breath
You softly asked,
"You sure?"
"Yeah." I said
I was so sure
So, we kissed there
Among the silent ancient ones
And then you just held me
For a while
Because I was a little shaken
I knew we had just broken
More rules than I cared
To think about
And, yet, I felt better
Than I had
In a very long time
And I told you
That you surpised
You thought
That you scared me
I guess that I was
Scared at the time
But not of you
But what I did
See, it was you
That kissed me
But it takes two to tango
And two pairs of lips
To seal a kiss
I helped break those rules
I was your partner in crime
I helped commit that sin
I kissed you back
And after that
I was content
To let you leave
Because I had it
On good authority
That you'd most definatly
Be back...
