two cups
my cumbrous heart is torn between two men
who tragically both love me in return
my divided loyalties are a sin,
but i can't deny that for which i burn.
the first has owned my heart since we were young;
with honest kiss, love's road he gently paved.
Capricious youth did light and sharply stung
our lips. but not long did the ache deprave.
the second, my intended, i am made
for. he shelters me and dries every tear.
a strong rock to stand on, to hide behind;
yet i cannot tell him my dreams, my fears.
dreams of love are often convoluted
when lost for he who is better suited.
