Dallying For Dummies
Or maybe call it Slow Dancing For Dunces.
I have it together for the first time in forever
turned and ran into a kiss
that made the ground shake
made my knees quake
and set up a tremor in my heart.
Oh, I'm clever---
until a pair of eyes fix on mine
with the intensity of a monsoon,
and drag me to the center
of a twister that feels so good
that I don't mind
the cost of the ride.
It's not that a man has never kissed me,
not that I've never felt desire
or been singed by a lusty gaze---
but no touch has ever laid waste
to my common sense,
and made me crazy
when I determined to be sane.
I was always the force of nature,
smug about the effect I could cause---
until you came slamming into my world
shattering the panes,
splintering the wood,
and whirling me breathless
into a place
where all that matters
is the next kiss.
I could write a book
about the natural disaster
that you have made of my heart.
