A Missed Opportunity
At first light
I smile at your sleep-smooth face
and take in the room.
A haphazard path
as rumpled and tangled together as we.
My eyes wander back to you.
Your beautiful hands
shivering reminders
how rapidly you sought my skin.
If you would only open your eyes
in this perfect moment,
I could say it.
Easy as a breath,
I love you.
Instead I only sigh.
Still half in dreams,
you pull me, warm in your arms.
I take one last look
at the evidence of passion.
Wishing once again
defenses were so easily shed.
