Shapes in the Oil
I will probably never see a Scarlet Tanager
perch amongst Cala Lilies-
Though I did step outside
to feel the cold air's slap
after too much wine
before the oragne chicken was served
and imagination fooled memory
with startling success.
I dragged Focaccia through
Balsalmic vinegar and oil
creating a voluptuous swirl
that I will never be able to exact again.
Yet I am not sure if I want to relive
having my eyebrow traced slowly
being asked a question
causing my stare to drop
reminding myself of
the reasons why I can't say, "no"
I do want to meet that all-to-real
mythical Goddess of brevity and onceness
but she is out there
floating goose down clumps
in some ethereal manner teaching me
not to go looking for Tanagers
and that Cala Lilies may be
best swimming in crystal.
