caffeinated promise

if i was a coffee bean
i'd gladly jump headfirst into the grinder for you
i'd let you coat me with chocolate
i'd be waiting for you every morning
i'd make sure the water was hot, but not too hot
i wouldn't burn you
and i wouldn't let it get too cold
i'd welcome the hints of your favorite flavors
i'd encourage you to drink of my cup
i'd probably give you a headache if you took in too much of me
or not enough
i'd awaken your senses
i might make you jittery
i'd accept some roasting from time to time
i'd eventually form a ring
i would probably leave some stains on blank pages for you to read into
i'd be a good bean
though i'd probably be a better nut
