we'll make it work, my darling
we will we will
I'll grit my teeth
and say,"Hi! How many in your party? Smoking or nonsmoking?"
and I will clean dirty tables
and I will learn to count out change
and I will come home to an empty apartment at eleven o'clock
at night and get online and meet you in a blue and pink room
and spray Emporio perfume on cards covered with my sexy scrawl
and x's and o's
and I will light Virgin Mary and angel and John the Baptist candles
and watch the Doors videos you sent me
and look at your serious self-portrait until I fall asleep
I will notice the stars when I have time
and think of you so faraway you might as well be in Cairo
I will know you love me and cherish me
even when everyone I know is telling me to be careful
and keep my options open wide
I will think of our shared hilarity
our pranks and inside jokes
that no one else could understand
our connection is so real
I feel like we could have met in the womb
I know it's a cliche
but you could be my twin
you end where I begin and I won't pretend
I can call this friendship with the possibility of love
you matter, damn it
more than ever
and I'm never
gonna end a chat without saying,"I love you the MOSTEREST"
or something similar...
