Oh Lonesome Me

The TV seems overly loud,
turned way up to drown
the silence of the phone
not ringing.
A half-hearted laugh
escapes me at the passing
conversation as I re-read
the first e-mail you've sent
in three days.
Maybe you forgot how
insecure I am in this
long distance thing.
Maybe, for just a minute,
I forgot.
Maybe you've changed your
heart, and are trying 
to let me down easy.
Or have I changed mine?
Leave behind the silly
days of talking myself 
out of love.
Absence is taking its toll
and too many lonely nights
leave me wondering...
