Nate and Christina

Caring Christina
Is my great friends wife
She and Nathan live an
Almost wonderful life

They love each other
Just like breathing
Naturally

Nate’s in the Navy
An unwillingly enlisted man
Who dropped out of ROTC
For computers and Christina
The two loves of his life
The first love and the wife

And I talk to Christina
While waiting for Nate.
My college buddy
Remembers being single
He can commiserate
With me as I flail awkwardly
Because as far as relationships go
I’m an AOL newbie.

So I’m talking to Christina
She loves California weather
Copious sunshine
Clear water
Carefree surf
And their new apartment
On Coronado island

And I’m discussing skydiving
Aka loving my inner lemming
And she’s complimenting me about
How that takes courage
(Or craziness I reply)
Or both

And I’m describing jumping
As life affirmation
As proving I can do things
I’ve always said I wanted to do
But was too cautious
Too chicken
Too careful
To do.

And they both give me advice on love
I think Christina’s is better
Nate is whipped and likes it
Though I think the leather strap
Stings them both
if you know what I mean

Nate still seems whipped though
The wife helps him with his job of cleaning
She makes the mess.
But she loves him drunkenly
Sometimes she’s draggin the morning after
And Nate helps her out
as he’s rolling with laughter

The advice they give me
Is to not worry or hurry
To not sweat it or regret it
To neither dwell nor forget it
Just relax
Just breathe

That love will come sneaking up on me
That live will appear suddenly
That I won’t have to ask any questions
That I won’t have to work my heart out
I’ll know and she’ll show
And that the hardest part of relationships
Is keeping them simple

Christina says it was love at first sight
The only thing I’ve loved at first sight
Is my new laptop computer.

But I know that it’s possible.
Watching Nate and Christina
Makes me think that it’s probable
Because it’s only love after all

Christina and Nathan are cute together
And I think Christina and Nathan have
forever
