NOW AND THEN

summer rain tapping on steamy pavement
a familiar city smell
conjuring memories of neighborhood days
sitting on the porch with a transistor radio
watching but not necessarily waiting
for the storm to pass
lightening and thunder serve as entertainment
between bottles of coke, chips with hot sauce,
twelve cent comic books, and thoughts of you.
