Mixed Emotions Concerning Technology

I'm wondering if you called just now
I know I stepped away from the phone, or perhaps I was writing,
And I didn't hear it ring.
Of course the last time the senseless mechanical junk
Rings only to find a rat sweepstakes you win
Or now switch your long distance carrier snake talker
Instead of you at nearly the time now, that you said you would call.
But the beautiful symphony of the digital bell
Indicates contact with you shortly,
And so I thank the marvelous frustrating mechanical junk
Which actually looks more like art now.
And then again I curse the vile lump of wires and buttons.
That I might have heard ringing
But couldn't quite reach the rotten lump
That delays my time to you.
I pick up the receiver
Hoping to hear the glorious voice-mail-from-you beeps
And when they are there, joy
And agony that I didn't get the call right away,
And thusly did not hear your voice right away,
But its relief now, when we talk,
And thank you cold electrical appliance phone
That I now hear the sweet music of your words on the other side
Speaking to me.
Its better when I answer the call from you
And save the interference by the heartless computerized
Savior voice mail saver that impedes our connection.
