Puddles All Around
Surround yourself
with whatever alters reality
hard pavement grey life.
Drink the drinks
turn out the lights to make it easier to face
the man who was already
dark and out of focus.
You dance a different dance
with the right girl
in an old bar
and pay attention to the lyrics because there may be a quiz later...
True or False?
You felt the electric magnetic connection
when her fingers brushed your thigh
so you took that smooth and sweet shot
slipped down your throat
into something more comfortable.
The man you become as the night wears down is someone new
and easier to love and be loved and
even if love never enters the equation
you can blame it on her smile
or the bottle
or anyone but yourself.
But in the morning when you wake up beside her
and all there is
is streaming lattice-broken sunshine
tattooed on skin and beauty
spread out like heaven
You Know...
It might take more than manufactured liquid courage
to get her out of your head
because its easier to face the morning
with her warmth melting
your exact iced resolve
even if it means
puddles all around.
