Reflections on a summer evening

Reflections on a summer evening

Starlight and the moon,
Although the sky is still almost light,
The air is still sweet,
My mind walks those streets,
Where you first held my hand,
Where you held me close,
And smelled my hair,
To that wall where we sat,
And made those dreamy plans,
My mind walks me to the river,
Where I still loved you,
Where we kissed in the rain,
Where jewelled webs fanned out,
In the iron railings,
I smell the green,
Of the park and the plants,
In those gardens that we passed,
And my mind walks me to the bus stop,
Where I said goodbye to you,
Where I held you close,
On those cracked paving slabs,
To the train station,
Where I met you,
Back to the hill and the pub,
Back to that tree,
The one I backed you up against,
On that summer evening,
Back under the roses,
Back on that long walk,
When you were still my friend.

For my one lost love, my one lost friend, my one lost chance and one beautiful kiss in the rain.
