Slipping Away

I had a love once
      that was something new
      true
It was a firmament
From which to build a life
      A future of shining hope

'til it slipped away.

I had a love once
      of laughter and rainbows
      and summer water fights
      and winter snowballs
      and heated breathe

'til it slipped away...gone in a single day.

I had a love once
of holding hands in the park
      and  kisses in the dark
by the moon and the lake
               quiet moments in love's wake

'til it slipped away.

I had a love once
     of rare beauty and grace
     heat and passion
     longing and wonder
     leather and lace
And we used to lay in the meadow
and count the stars in their mantle
and talk of beauty and magic
     and babies and creation
     and hunger and waste
     of hope and humanity
     and touching and tenderness
     and forever

'til forever slipped away
'til it all slipped away
