Summer Love

I fell for you faster
than a bug hitting a windshield
on some hot July day

Our love sizzled like a
  double cheeseburger on the barbecue
until the point of perfection

Then fireworks! It was so beautiful
and we got to watch wrapped in a blanket of love
under a starry sea of lightning bugs

Good things can only last so long.
the bug is washed away...the burger cooled and unappealinging...
only smoke of fireworks cloud minds from all the good times

The last summer sun sets slower
  than those daring little caterpillars
crossing the road in vacation traffic

But left behind a silent promise
she'll be back next year with another
looking for the same thing I am

I sigh...
  summer love...
summer...
