True Love
I look upon your face as if I am watching a film of my life...
My life... rolling across your brow like a marquee.
And as the film rolls, I can see us aging together,
but so gracefully...I had always thought that so cliche'...
Yet, timelessness beholds beauty so well!
I can see us rocking there on an old grey-weathered porch,
sipping lemonade you made with my secrets,
crunching cookies I made with thoughts of you swimming all through the dough,
our grandchildren's laughter throwing us back through many happy years and to the many trials that brought us even closer despite heartbreaking tears.
I can see your gentle eyes gazing into mine with years of warmth spun
in their hazel midsts as you touch me with shakey arthritic hands that heal...
loving hands that still send chills down my girlish spine and cause me to immortalize you.
I can see through the rough lines in your face and the grey of your hair
to the wonderful heart b'neath that won mine years ago...
the heart that melted and poured me all over you... and made you mine.
I can see us there though we are here now, before this time,
happy as we will be then or perhaps we will be even happier then
due to the wisdom of age and the sedation of love.
I look across from me and see my life rocking before me...and it is you...
And that is the most wonderful sight of all...
And that is the most wonderful feeling of all...
And you are the most wonderful man of all...
And I will love you always, because
my heart can see it no other way.
