You Turn

I can't get past the you turn my heart has taken
as silly as it may seem
that I stay up till late
playing out imaginary interactions between us.
The most popular scenario being the truth-
if I knew what it was.
Seizing your shoulders in a made-for-TV drama
page from a Danielle Steele novel kind of way saying that
I want to hold you
hurt you
protect you
reject you all at once
spin you around
knock your socks off
till you're on your knees wondering
if I am your shelter from the storm
or merely the eye of the hurricane
cause I can be both and neither
and I can be a mystery too
My acts may seem transparent
but that is only because I know of no other way
to capture you besides bodily force
and no one has ever loved me for the right reasons anyway
But I see that same worry inside you
Behind your quiet
hidden beneath brooding dark eyes
that beg me to understand you
at the same time you are pushing me away
I found someone new under the layers of myself
when you kissed me
and that girl wants to kiss you again
and again
Till you realize your answer
has to be yes
Middle school notes
Gin soaked kisses
Defense mechanisms
and newborn babies aside
I want you.
