Take Off
Looking out a window
only slightly larger
than my head,
I watch the workers
scurry to prepare
this bird for flight.
They look so silly
in their bright orange vests.
I hope they don't forget my bag.
My ears are already blocking
in anticipation of the ascent
this great bird will make.
It's amazing that something
so large could stay aloft for so long.
But, in the event, (should it happen),
that we crash in the ocean,
my seat cushion can be used
as a floatation device.
Really, how comforting.
So, as I sit in this seat,
cramped, my hips brushing either side,
I wonder how quickly I can
actually get that cushion
out from under my ass.
Do I need a blanket or a pillow?
Lady, I'm still thinking about
the huge body of water I might
crash into.
So thanks, but no thanks.
Really, who could sleep?
As I watch the early morning sky lighten,
I realize that it doesn't matter.
Roll the dice, spin the wheel,
50-50 chance.
I'll either make it or I won't.
Live a little!
We all gotta die someday!
