Wishful Sinking
I wish I was a mechanic named John
with big hands and a wife named Shauna
who would make me bologna sandwiches for supper
and keep the checkbook balanced
I wish I were a manicurist named Deandra
with a toothy grin and a boyfriend named Doug
who would send me white roses just because
and kiss me in public
I wish I was a sunbeam dancing on a daisy
I wish I was a weak tornado that decides not to touch ground
I wish I was a quarter in a fountain at the galleria in Dallas
I wish I was KRISTY LOVES PEDRO FOREVA scrawled on a wall in San Antonio
I am just a crazy misplaced poor chic with big ideas
but I just saved 25 square feet of rain forest land
and I just love my man to pieces
and I look for God in people
even though I think we all started out as gods and goddesses and angels
and are devolving into Chia Pets
so applaud me
applaud me
I think I deserve some adulation
