I Love You
I love you.
Three simple words
said with such
careless disregard
for the innocent ears
they fall upon.
So many times
to be felt
as daggers thrust
by jealous pixies,
Cupid turning a blind
eye to the mute pleas
of the tormented souls
the mantra wasn't
meant for.
Time rattles his chains
maliciously, surreptitiously
weaving and tightening
the wicked coils about
tender hearts, draining
every last drop of feeling.
But Wait!
He appears on the horizon,
a knight in a battered red pick-up,
bolt cutters in the gun rack.
The fiery sun glints
on them as he shears
Time's chains, reviving
my brutalized heart with
his tender touch and words.
Looking into his clear blue eyes,
the stars there shining for me alone,
I know those words are
meant for me.
I love you.
And we ride off into
the setting sun,
my heart blooming as
a wilted rose after
the rains.
