These things I'm sure of
gravity works,
the world keeps turning,
and people change
In all these things
there is a core of newness
and adjusting is difficult work
some of us can't bear the strain
I've seen better people than I
crumble under the weight
of their own expectations
One small way of coping
with it all is this:
I am constantly looking
for the newness in you
for new reasons to fall
in love with who you are
not who I want
or who I wish you'd be
but you as you are
right now
