SCENE 39
SCENE 39-INT.-The apartment. Night.
Karis and Becca are sitting on the couch in the den
eating chocolate chip cookie dough.
Music: "Crimson and Clover" by Tommy James and the Shondells
Karis: I swear, this is the best song ever recorded.
Becca: It reminds me of my *Love is Now* book.
Karis: Is that the purple book with the black and white
photos and love poems?
Becca: Yeah. Whenever I'm really feelin' down I like to
light candles and read it aloud to myself. I guess it's
kind of lame. I just keep hoping I'll find true love someday,
like in "Flash Gordon" or "Prelude to a Kiss."
Karis: Leave it to you to think of "Flash Gordon" as a true
love story.
Becca: It is! "Forget it, Ming. Dale's with me!" It just doesn't get
any better than that.
Karis: I think "When Harry Met Sally" is the ultimate romantic film.
I love the things Harry says to Sally at the end of the movie.
Becca: Yeah, but Billy Crystal is just so unappealing. And Meg Ryan
gets on my nerves.
Karis: What about Derek? You don't think you could possibly
have the true love thing with him?
Becca: No, not after last night. It was just too unsavory.
Karis: So he got high with some random chic. Big deal.
Becca: It's not just that. He doesn't like my colors. I'm too
gaudy for him. He needs a pastel kind of girl.
Karis: Derek is very low-key and you're very highstrung. You
complement each other. It's like he's a phlegmatic-sanguine
and you're a choleric-melancholy.
Becca: Actually, I took the test awhile back and the results revealed
that I'm an extreme melancholy with a touch of phlegmatic. But
you're right about Derek. He's a Scorpio, though. I knew there
would be problems.
Karis: I think you need to relax and just go with it. Derek's
starting to grow on me.
Becca: Yeah, like mold.
