I'm so grateful that the last time I saw you
       we shared a full circle kiss
and I left knowing I had something that you
         were gonna miss
if we had to end
that was the best way
an embrace and a kiss
on an October day
and me in the dress you loved
my hair styled the way I wore it
on our first date
not that my looks ever carried
any weight
your plate
was full
and I
was dessert
and you must know
how deeply
that hurt

joy came
in bright spurts
there was some good
here and there
and when I gave you
my heart
you tried
to be fair
you weighed it carefully
on a scale
and carried it home
in a little tin pail
but when it fell out
cold and brittle
and naturally
broke
you did the right thing
and bought me
a Coke.
