This paradox inside me
the heart that has
lowered its expectations
but has not allowed the flames
of its passion to be quenched
is the heart that would
forge more than an understanding
but the well-honed edge
of love that cuts to the quick
and stills the longing
of a heart that burns as yours
if even for a few brief moments
in the forever of each day
