SCENES 40-43
SCENE 40-INT.-Papaw's room at the nursing home. Day.
Papaw is looking in the mirror. He's wearing black
shades and a cheap straw cowboy hat. His t-shirt says
If I Promise to Miss You Will You Go Away?
Music: "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" by REM
SCENE 41-INT.-Hallway in the nursing home. Day.
Papaw casually strolls down the hall. Nods at people
he sees in passing. Music is still
"What's the Frequency, Kenneth?"
SCENE 42-EXT.-Outside the nursing home. Day.
Papaw is walking out the door and into the sunlight.
Walks to the road and sticks his thumb out.
Music is still "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?"
SCENE 43-EXT.-Park. Day.
Derek and Becca are having a picnic. They're
sitting on a blanket near a pond. They're eating
Subway sandwiches, of course. Fried chicken clogs
the arteries, ya know.
Derek: We should go see Papaw later on.
Becca: Yeah, we should. Could we take him out on a
pass?
Derek: I guess. What would we do with him?
Becca: Take him to the White Rabbit. Red Rover is gonna
be there tonight.
Derek: Are you serious?
Becca: Yeah, I heard it from the clerk in Planet K.
Derek: No, I mean what the hell are you thinking?
As crazy as Papaw is, I can't picture him in a mosh pit.
Becca: Why not?
Derek: Uh...because he's sixty-four years old? Because he
has Alzheimer's? Because the White Rabbit is crawling with
the neo nazi freak element?
Becca: Don't patronize me.
Derek: I just don't get you sometimes. That makes no sense.
Becca: So what do you suggest, mister man? Dinner at Luby's
followed by a dollar movie? You should know by now that I don't
believe in stereotypes. Just because Papaw is old doesn't mean he has to be lame.
Derek: Let's compromise. The White Rabbit is out of the question, darlin.
Becca: Alright. We'll take him to my favorite karaoke bar, then.
