A Surprise for Becca
like a little girl
she still loves
to be surprised
she would love
to close her eyes
and open them to see
all her dreams and wishes
come true
all the paper people
would be suddenly real
and they would feel
her pain and joy
and admire the fact that
she was never a toy
because she doesn't believe in complacency
or security or safety or traps or roles
she doesn't believe in hiding
in holes
she shouts her truth
she sings her song
doesn't try to get along
and play nice
with fools who can't name
That Tune
she never ate sugar
from a silver spoon
I've seen her scars
and named her stars
looked into her eyes and found
all the proof
I require
that she alone can light
my fire
I would fight my way
through the forest of briars
and kiss her awake
and keep every promise
she inspires me
to make
but I will take
my time
and I
will roam
I'll find the something
she lost
and bring it home
