SCENE 49-INT.-Derek's van. Night.
Becca is driving. Derek is asleep in the
back seat. Papaw is sitting in the passenger seat.
Music: "Sh Boom Sh Boom" by the Crewcuts.
Becca is laughing at the song.
Papaw is remembering.
SCENE 50-INT.-Kitchen. Night.
Papaw's memory. He's remembering being with
his wife on their one-year anniversary.
Music is still "Sh Boom Sh Boom" by the Crewcuts.
Candles are glowing on the table. Carl and Gladys
are drinking Coca-Cola from glass bottles and eating
hamburgers and French fries.
Gladys: Are you sick of me yet?
Carl: It's only been a year, sweetheart.
Gladys: So you still think I'm pretty?
Carl: The prettiest.
Gladys: What are we gonna do when we're old and ugly
and the world doesn't love us anymore?
Carl: We're going to love each other.
Gladys: Dance with me. I know you think you can't
but I insist.
Carl: I'm going to step all over your poor little toes.
Gladys: Make a gallant effort not to. I'm barefooted,
remember.
They dance around the candlelit kitchen. Carl cuts up,
acts goofy and lovesick. Bites Gladys on her neck.
Gladys throws her head back and laughs.
