Too jaded to have many expectations 
we think that love can no 
longer surprise us in our 
worldly awareness 
the hearts have ideas all their own 
and so astound us yet again 
they lead us from the inside out with 
an almost nostalgic tenderness that is 
unmistakable in its solicitude 
that softens the soul and the lips 
that whisper of their 
desire to make their mark 
on yielding skin 
and so touch the hearts
